CARE’s ‘Ride 4 Recovery’ event extended
CARE of Southeastern Michigan’s eighth annual “Ride 4 Recovery” has a twist this year due to COVID-19.
Normally a one-day affair, this year’s event will take place virtually between Aug. 16 and 30.
It always comes a month before National Recovery Month, in September, and promotes the societal benefits of prevention, treatment and recovery for mental and substance use disorders. It also celebrates people in recovery and praises the contributions of treatment and service providers, while promoting the general message of recovery.
It is the organization’s biggest annual fundraiser — “the signature event,” as described by CARE CEO Susan Styf. On average, this event brings in about $61,000 between participation, sponsorships and donations. She said each year the benchmark goal is a 5% to 10% fundraising increase.
As of July 29, approximately $24,000 had been raised.
“It’s the same purpose, it’s the same message,” Styf said. “The difference is, obviously with the inability to come together, everybody will be doing the ride that they want to do, and we’re hoping people will send us their photos and videos so we can promote it through our social media.”
Individuals or teams can sign up for 1-, 5-, 10-, 26- or 40-mile ride rides. CARE is asking participants to spread awareness by sharing photos from their excursions on Facebook, Twitter, Instagram and YouTube with the hashtag #ride4recovery.
