How can we stop a problem before it starts?
Teen Intervene
Most parents and teens are aware of at least one intervention or treatment program for someone who has an alcohol or substance use issue— like a 12-step program, regular counseling, or medical treatment. But what if your child or teen hasn’t used drugs or alcohol yet — but are at risk to try them? For instance, maybe your teen was caught smoking marijuana or drinking alcohol with other youth. Maybe your teen is beginning to experience behavioral problems at school or home as a result of alcohol or other drug use. Your teen might not be yet be using substances regularly, but some type of intervention is needed.
Now that you identified that your teen is experimenting with drugs or alcohol, what is your next step? Approaching your teen about your concerns without an action plan in place might result in nothing more than an eye roll.
Teen Intervene can help
Teen Intervene is a brief intervention and a great option for families who believe their adolescent has begun experimenting or is at-risk for trying illegal or legal substances. Teen Intervene is a one day class for both youth and parents that provides up to date information about substance abuse, including the potential impacts on the brain and body, the legal risks and consequences, and how it harms relationships. Portions of the class are held with parents and teens separated, and for other segments, they are together. Other topics covered include:
- the reasons your teen has chosen to use alcohol or other drugs
- the effects of substance abuse in their lives
- how to make healthier choices
Help for parents and caregivers too
The parent/caregiver portion of Teen Intervene teaches healthy communication skills and how to establish family rules to protect youth from any further substance abuse. Teen Intervene’s brief intervention will provide the motivation, education, support and guidance for parents and adolescents to make the needed changes in their lives.
