Help to Retore our Lower Level

CARE’s Children’s Programs Include
  • Project FOCUS: a school year and summer day camp experience that supports those children who have been touched by addiction and drug dependency.
  • Student Assistance: a multi facet program that includes access to mental health treatment, educational programs and peer activities.
  • Paper People: an age-appropriate educational program for preschoolers and kindergarten students that focuses on safety issues and self worth.
  • Children’s Treatment Fund:  a fund that provides assistance to children with limited resources in need of mental health treatment.
These programs, facilitated by caring adults, are funded by charitable dollars and grants.  CARE’s programs improve the lives of children by providing opportunities to learn safe ways to cope with adversity, acquire new skills and gain the strength they need to make healthy life choices.

CARE has Established Three Memorial Funds
The Leonard Chapiewski Fund

Leonard served in the Navy and was a retiree of Ford Motor Company. In retirement, he graduated from clown school. Len dove into clowning feet first - and this clown made quite a splash with his BIG feet! With his balloons and magic, he created smiles for kids of all ages and made every child feel special. For his sixty years on this earth he remained generous, loving, and caring. He always looked for new things to do, new adventures, new friends, treasured everyone close to him and enjoyed life to its fullest.
Leonard and his wife, Suzanne, have been supporters of CARE's Children’s Program and the Annual Tea fundraiser for many years. Children will continue to benefit in Lenny’s memory with a donation made in his honor.

The Marilyn Keeslar Memorial Fund
Marilyn has been described as the “mother of parenting education” in Macomb County.  When her children were small, she went to a parenting class and was amazed to find how little she and other adults knew about rearing emotionally healthy children.  She decided to devote the rest of her life to teaching others what she had learned.  To that end, Marilyn coordinated and facilitated the first Systematic Training for Effective Parenting (STEP) classes as an employee at CARE, then known as the Substance Abuse Information Center.  Donations in her name are used to help low income parents access parent education.

The Robert Garbarino Memorial Fund
Robert, father of CARE’s volunteer, Jan Garbarino was a vice president at Borman’s (Farmer Jacks).  He regularly donated to children’s programs and is described by those who knew him as having a “soft spot for kids.”  Upon his death, his family decided that a good way to honor him was to continue the tradition that he started – support programs that encourage the healthy development of our most precious resource, our children.  Donations in his name are used to support CARE’s Children’s Programs.

Other Ways to Support CARE

Make a Gift Through Your Will

Making a bequest in your will is a great way to leave a gift when your current situation leaves you on a tight budget.  For more information please check with your accountant, attorney or call our office at 586.541.0033.

Gifts-In-Kind
Items to be used during fundraisers, office supplies, equipment, furnishings or services such as accounting or printing are tax deductible and are deeply appreciated.

Sponsorships

Each year CARE holds special events to help the community become more aware of its many programs and services and to raise charitable funds.  Corporate sponsors are always needed to help make these events a success.  Appropriate recognition is given to all sponsors.

Sponsor an event
Service organizations, church auxiliaries and youth groups can sponsor a fundraising event and donate the proceeds to CARE.  CARE can provide a packet of information and/or a person to help plan the fundraising event.

Volunteer
Volunteer opportunities at CARE include:
  • Facilitating Parenting Classes.  CARE’s Parenting Programs use the Systematic Training for Effective Parenting model.  Classes are facilitated by parents who have experienced the class and believe in the philosophy of the program.  A training and orientation are required.
  • Facilitate Programs for Young Children.  CARE offers an eight part series for preschoolers and kindergarteners.  The Paper People provides lessons on safety and self worth.  Classes are facilitated by caring and skilled adults who are committed to giving children a healthy start.
  • Office help.  Staple, fold and file.  Cut, paste and answer telephones. Office help is always needed to make programs run smoothly.  Volunteers who come into the office on a weekly or monthly bases are crucial to our programs' success.
  • Spread the Word in the Community.  Volunteers are needed to attend health fairs and other community events where the community gathers.
  • Project Focus is a school based and summer day camp program that provides education and support to children who have been negatively impacted by the adult use of alcohol and/or other drugs.  A training and orientation is required of volunteers.
  • Become a member of the Permanency Care Conference (PCC) team that meets when it may be necessary for the Department of Human Services to consider removing children from their birth parents. As a Community Representative, you will represent the birth family's "community" because of a shared geographic, cultural, religious, socioeconomic and/or ethnic connection. This supportive connection can continue throughout the family's involvement with the system. Contact Kim Baffo at 586.303.6506.
